Red Hat gpointing-settings not saved on logout

Well now that I have updated my pointing device settings to enable multitouch gestures on my laptop1, I have noticed that the settings don’t save when I logout or reboot. A bit of research and I see that this is a pretty common issues for Redhat users 23, and it is not so much that they are not saved, but they are not applied.

So even though I don’t like hacking my xorg.conf file… I’m back at it to make the changes persistent as noted here4 but this is missing some important pieces since it is out of date, so going to the trusting thinkwiki.org site there is some more update to date information here5.
